October Reading List: Magic and Mystery

Here in Washington state, the leaves are starting to fall and the air is becoming crisp. October, to me, is a month of magic and mystery, so that is the inspiration for my October reading list.

I kept my reading list short this month because I’m not sure how much time I will have for reading. On top of adjusting to the new routine of being a single mom, the last three months of the year are months of tradition, which keep us pretty busy. Some of these books have been on my list for a while, and others just popped out at me recently.

The Clockmaker’s Daughter by Kate Morton

This book caught my eye while browsing through Amazon the other day.  It is listed as a romance/murder mystery that takes place in the 1860s and present day. Murder mysteries aren’t usually the genre I go for, but I like that this one spans over a hundred years, so we will see.

A Discovery Of Witches by Deborah Harkness

This is a book I started reading years ago, but I got too busy at school and never finished it. I found the other day while unpacking a box that had been sitting in storage and new I had to add it to this month’s reading list. I loved the few chapters that I was able to read and can’t wait to dive back into it.

The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken

This one is a few years old, but I know it was recently turned into a movie, and I have a rule about reading the book before watching the film adaptation, so it’s on the list.

The Little Shop of Found Things by Paula Brackston

This is the first book in a new series that doesn’t release until October 16th, but I am so excited to read this one. I’ve always loved antique shops and the history that comes with each of the items, so this one should be an interesting read.
