One of my favorite things about summer is the simplicity that comes with it. Summer is known for big plans and high energy, but it is the soft simple moments that I remember most. Sitting around a bonfire on warm August nights and 10pm walks because the sun is still out. Eating ice cream on the front porch and exploring art festivals. These are the things that truly say summer to me.
4 Ways To Embrace Simplicity This Summer
I love all of the fresh food that is available this time of year. Some of my favorite summer activities so far have been going to the farm and picking our own strawberries or using our own homegrown herbs when cooking meals. Eating seasonally is an easy way to simplify your days this summer by getting inspiration from what is currently ready for harvest. Limiting yourself to what is seasonal narrows down your options and gives you the opportunity to try something new. I love going to the local farmer’s market and grabbing a couple seasonal items to throw together for dinner. Your meals don’t have to be extravagant or overflowing with ingredients. (My favorite guac recipe only has three items in it!)
With kids out of school and summer plans in full force things can get hectic. It is easy to focus too much on enjoying yourself, and then, next thing you know, summer is over. Make sure you take time to slow down and appreciate these months. Take a late night walk or spend the day reading a book at the park. If you have travel plans, take the scenic route. Put you’re phone away and be present; technology seems to make time move faster. Spend more time experiencing and less time thinking about the next experience and summer will feel just as long as it’s supposed to be.
Decorate With The Season
I love to decorate my home with what is available to me that season and the world is abundant with beauty this time of year. Open the windows to let in the natural light and fresh air. Adorn your table with fresh picked fruit or collect some wildflowers during a walk. Pick up a new piece of art from a craft show or make your own with pressed flowers and dried herbs. To bring to greenery in the home, plant a succulent wall garden or add a pothos plant to a macrame hanger.
Dress The Part
To me, summer is all about comfort, function, and simplicity when it comes to style. I don’t like to get overheated or feel bogged down. When choosing what to wear during those warmer months, I like to pick out pieces that breathe, are light, and have a natural beauty to them. Dresses, shorts, sandals, and loose-fitting tanks are some items I always have in my closet.
For accessorizing, I am currently loving my JORD wooden watch. That’s right, it’s a wooden watch guys! I received the dark sandalwood & mint from the JORD Frankie 35 collection and I’ve honestly never seen a more beautiful watch. The watch arrive in a gorgeous wooden storage box, safely secured around a tiny burlap pillow. It is so lightweight and I love the way the mint face compliments the dark sandalwood.
One thing I really value about JORD watches is how much information they supply their customers with. On the website you will find a variety of one of a kind watches for men and women, along with facts about the watch and wood; where it is sourced, descriptions of the grain and texture, sustainability information, etc.
JORD also offers engraving services. This gives you another to way to make your watch unique to you by adding a personal message or meaningful words to the underside of your watch.
