The Good Years

Hey guys, it’s late and I’m on my fourth cup of tea because I can’t seem to get warm, so I’d thought I share a thought with you today. I was talking to someone the other day about the best age to have kids, to which my answer was, “whenever you have them,” and their answer was, “after twenty-five because I don’t want to waste the good years of my life.”

The good years? What the hell are the good years?

Well, according to the someone I was talking to and a survey done by Cosmopolitan, the good years are your early twenties. Seriously, your early twenties? What about thirty, flirty, and thriving? Or the golden years? And have you taken a look a Lady Gaga, RDJ, or Meryl Streep lately? I’m not saying that they weren’t fantastic in their 20s, but they definitely weren’t at their peak.

And while we’re on the topic of peaking, here are some fun facts about age that I found while searching the internet:

I guess my whole point to all of this is not limit yourself to 5% of your lifetime. Each decade of your life is different and a whole new world opens up to us as we age. I am 26 years old and I sure as hell won’t tell you the best years of my life have come and gone in the past six years, because the thing is, many of those twenty-six years have been “good years” (even the questionable ones), and I look forward to so many more to come. I don’t want to look back at my life in my 80s and think that all the fun I had happened 60 years ago. How sad is that?

Okay, rant over. My tea is gone, it’s still late, and I’m still cold, so I’m going to bed. I’d love to hear your thoughts though! What do you think about the good years?

  1. The good years are the years that you are alive! Seriously, though my early 20s were not that great……I am loving my early 30s and all the new adventures they have brought. I hate the thought that people of a certain age feel like they are just waiting around and all the great years have passed. There is so much joy in every day!

    1. Well said, Kelly! I am so excited to enter into my 30s, but I’m enjoying the 20s as well and I look forward to the years beyond that. Life is a collection of experiences and I think each decade has its own flare to offer. Thank you for your thoughtful comment 🙂
